The Regional River Center was created on the dual initiative of the association “Breton Water and Rivers” and the commune of Belle-isle-en-terre. The center is a permanent agent for raising public awareness, education and training in environmental matters, and more specifically in the realm of water and its environment.
ITS ACTIVITIES
Educational activities
From nursery to BTS-level, the centre welcomes numerous school groups through its river and water courses. In the course of these stays, many subjects are dealt with, ranging from wildlife to plant-life, how aquatic eco-systems work, how to reduce water usage, food, consumerism, waste disposal, as well as the use of chemical products and responsible citizenship.
Reception and organisation of holiday breaks
Aimed at children’s holiday camps, leisure centres & works councils, these breaks offer the chance to get to know the environment as well as getting to know natural sporting activities.
Nature days
The centre organises thematic days open to everyone during the holidays and in winter. These days provide a chance to discover more about salmon, otters and dragonflies, as well as getting acquainted with aquatic eco-systems, ponds, rivers, and peat bogs, to discover how a mill works or even to learn the art of charcoal drawing.
HOLIDAY 1 FAMILY ACTIVITIES
During July and August, the centre organises all sorts of different activities : how to make wooden toys, find out more about mills, the life of the salmon, medicinal plants and ones you can eat. For the full programme, please see “Events”.
COURSES
There is a wide variety of training courses : saving water; repairing and restoring water-courses; managing wetlands, running holiday centres (in association with a BAFA), teaching methods, individual water purification; environmental mediation.
STUDIES AND LISTING OF NATURAL AREAS
The centre carries out studies which have as objective to improve public awareness and that of professional bodies concerning aquatic areas and the different species that live there.
